Self Myofascial Release



Foam rolling is a technique that can be used to promote myofascial release. Myofascial release can help with reducing trigger points and improving flexibility. 

A muscle which is restricted can result in a decrease in the range of motion of the associated joint. The result of decreased range of motion in a joint can lead to problematic issues. Placing a greater load on the surrounding soft tissue (joints, ligaments and muscles) can increase the chance of experiencing injury. 

Self-myofascial release (SMR) along with static stretching are excellent combinations to improve the flexibility and suppleness of a muscle. 

 Muscle tightness can be seen in muscles that may be inflexible and can cause discomfort upon stretching. 
Trigger points, on the other hand, are points in the muscle that are manifested as “knots” in the actual muscle tissue. These “knots” can be felt when pressure is placed on the muscle. 

 My SMR (Self Myofascial Release) program consists of:

  • Body Awareness Activities
  • Body Scanning Activity
  • Half Foam Roller
  • Cylindrical Foam Roller
  • Contour Foam Roller
  • Grid Foam Roller
  • Static Stretching following each SMR session

Recovery is a very important factor in a balanced health and fitness program.  Poor posture, poor body mechanics and overuse can result in muscle tightness and trigger points.
